Art Inspiration: Building Community and Retreat Announcement!

 

Hello My Fellow Art Lovers-  "Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world." -L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables  Victoria and Addie When I first met with my friend, Victoria Williams Steen, to see if she was interested in hosting her monthly women's circle at the studio she gifted me this plant .... It has grown a lot since then! When Victoria made this stunning piece, depicting Daphne being turned into a tree from Ovid's Metamorphoses, it felt familiar and comforting to me. Then I suddenly remembered this piece ..... I made it years ago, right after I got married.  It was meant to represent two people coming together, unified.  It seems ironic that in Victoria's piece the birds are flying away from each other.  This perfectly reflects how Daphne turns away from Apollo. Sometimes we turn toward one another and sometimes we turn away. But when there is unconditionaly love we always come back to each other.  For in the words of L.M. Montgomery ....  "True friends are always together in spirit."
