Okay- I know that the oranges depicted in this painting are past blooming and into the fruiting stage.  But I couldn't help but name this large painting after one of my favorite songs.

It's the orange blossom special.
Bringing my baby back.

A desire arises in the mind. It is satisfied immediately another comes. In the interval which separates two desires a perfect calm reigns in the mind. It is at this moment freed from all thought, love or hate. Complete peace equally reigns between two mental waves.

What is this restlessness?

Does a drop stay still in the ocean?

Move with the entirety and with the tiniest particular.
Be the moisture in the oyster that helps to form one pearl.

She Was Here on Earth

She Was Here on Earth

Acrylic on Paper

Lara walked along the tracks following a path worn by pilgrims and then turned into the fields. Here she stopped and, closing her eyes, took a deep breath of the flower-scented air of the broad expanse around her. It was dearer to her than her kin, better than a lover, wiser than a book. For a moment she rediscovered the purpose of her life. She was here on earth to grasp the meaning of its wild enchantment and to call each thing by its right name, or, if this were not within her power, to give birth out of love for life to successors who would do it in her place.

Yeah... I was in a good mood the day I painted this.
I had this song in my head...

My window faces the south
I'm almost halfway to heaven
The snow is falling still I can see
Fields of cotton smiling at me

Let it go and allow yourself to be happy.

Mistakes and Fauvism

July 28th 2012 on the Broad Ripple Canal
Copyright 2012 Addie Hirschten
Watercolor and Pen on Paper
8 1/2" x 11"

Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our lives.
Laughing at someone else's can shorten it.
-Cullen Hightower

The day I went out to the Broad Ripple Canal to create this painting I was feeling very hurt and distracted.  So much so that I FORGOT TO BRING BRUSHES TO PAINT WITH!

So... I laughed at myself then took the paint straight out of the tubes and smeared it on with my fingers.  Luckily I also had some pens to work with too.  It is not my best painting ever- but it was fun to do once I got over my 'great expectations.'

It reminds me of those crazy bright Fauve paintings like Matisse and Derain...
This is one of my favorite Fauve paintings by George Braque.
It was stolen from the Paris Museum of Modern Art.

They Loved Each Other

They Loved Each Other
Copyright 2012 Addie Hirschten
Acrylic on Paper
14" x 11"

They loved each other, not driven by necessity, by the "blaze of passion" often falsely ascribed to love. They loved each other because everything around them willed it, the trees and the clouds and the sky over their heads and the hearth under their feet.
-Boris Pasternak

How quick bright things come to confusion.
-Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream
