Here we are at day one of the 30 Day Painting Challenge hosted by artist Leslie Saeta!  Me and many other artists will be posting daily paintings during the month of September on Leslie's blog.  It is an excellent way to push yourself to progress.  This time I will be focusing on beach scenes from my summer including Beaufort, NC and the Indiana Dunes.

This painting is the first horse painting I've ever done!  (Unless you count fourth grade drawings.)  The horses on Carrot Island are all wild.  This painting had to be done from a photo since they move so quickly.  The sun was setting from the opposite direction creating amazing purple clouds to the east.

  1. Congratulations--your first painting is wonderful! Great colors, and I think the horses look great, too. Enjoy the challenge!

  4. I thought you must be a western artist when I saw this one. It's beautiful! Reminds me of some wild horses I saw in Wyoming a couple of years ago. Well done!
